A Word for 2026

Each New Year, I pray about a Word for the Year. I also pray for a concept that I will keep in mind as I travel through the months. I can trust that the Lord will take me back to these again and again.
It’s about growth for me. I want to become more like Christ and this is one tool in my toolbox.
This year my Word is KINDNESS.
In recent years I have noticed that people seem unrestrained when it comes to lashing out at others. It isn’t just one thing causing this, but I believe social media is a huge contributor. Sadly, it’s a place where people too often relinquish acceptable standards of civility and embrace cruelty rather than acceptance or understanding. Meanness is thrown about without regard for the victim. People will often gang up on someone they disagree with.
Ugh.
I am not innocent. I’ve fallen prey to the temptation. And I’ve found myself not only the victim but the victimizer. God forgive me. This can happen to us all, but we need to remember apologies are still something we can and should offer.
I want to be a kinder, more thought person and add to the world’s peace rather than its turbulence.
A thought that has often come to my mind in recent days is found in a familiar scripture. Two other sources mentioned this same thought to me, and I knew it was this year’s CONCEPT. It comes from Matthes 6:33.
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.”
I have wasted too much time feeling frustrated or worried about something rather than seeking out God and His perspective in my daily life before I do anything else. In Psalm 1:2-3 it says, as we meditate on the Word we will be like a fruit-bearing tree planted by a stream of water.
I want to be that kind of tree.
As we spend time in God’s Word we get to know Him better. We need to begin with Him and He will provide all of our needs.
Do you have a Word or a piece of wisdom you would like the share?
Grace and peace to you from God,
Bonnie
